Visual Arts Assignment Calendar 2017-2018
September 5: Go over syllabus and make portfolio.
September 6: Finish and decorate portfolio and take notes on types of lines in art.
September 7: Collect twigs and leaves from outside, arrange into a composition and make contour drawings of the result. Turn in your best drawing.
September 8: Review notes on types of line in art. Continue working on leaf contour drawings
September 11: Review. Continue working on leaf contour drawings.
September12. More review. Finish leaf contour drawings. On Wednesday you may work on your sketchpad assignment or your leaf contour drawing.
September 13. Review Line notes. Cardboard edge printing. Use strips of various kinds and lengths of cardboard strips dipped in paint to create a line composition on paper.
September 14. Gesture drawings. Use live model to create a series of quick gesture drawings with large sketchpads and charcoal pencils. Keep your eyes on the model while drawing quickly and going over the same areas more than once without raising your pencil off the paper.
September 15. Quiz over line notes. Create a wire sculpture of your gesture drawing but reduce the size of the sculpture down to about 8-12 inches tall. Attach to a wooden base and paint all one color.
September 18: Attach wire sculpture to base and paint. Work on Mondrian Painting.
September 19: Finish Mondrian Painting, Work on sketchpad #2 Drawing.
September 20: Color pencil or charcoal drawing of water bottle with shading.
September 21: India ink value scale (1-10). PowerPoint on Elements of Art.
September 22: India ink painting.
September 23: Continue working on India ink painting.
September 24: Continue taking notes on "The Elements of Art." Finish India ink painting. Work on sketchpad #3 drawing if done with painting.
September 25: Work on painting.
September 26: Complete your painting and take Element of Art Notes on color.
September 27: Practice drawing a shaded Sphere. Start Drawing of multiple spheres with directional lighting.
September 29: One-point perspective drawing of cubes in space and cityscape.
October 2: Finish one-point perspective drawings and turn in. Finish taking notes on color.
October 3: Kandinski inspired painting.
October 4: Finish Kandinski painting. Work on sketchpad #4 (due Thursday).
October 5: Notes Elements of Art, hand in sketchpad #4.
October 6: Begin carving linoleum block for print series.
October 9: Finish carving linoleum block. Begin making prints from block.
October 10: Finish block prints, work on sketchpad #5.
October 11: Finish notes and review of Elements of Art for test tomorrow. Work on sketchpad #5.
October 12: Test over Elements of Art from notes. Turn in sketchpad #5.
October 16: View examples of optical illusion drawings. Design and start your own.
October 17: Finish optical illusion drawing.
October 18: Draw face proportions example. Then, use the sample proportions to draw your neighbor's face.
October 19: Finish work. Hand in sketchpad #6.
October 20: Pablo Picaso, "Mother and Child" drawing. Use India ink and chalk pastel.
October 23: Go over pencil sketch of "Mother and Child" with narrow India ink lines. Use chalk pastel for color and shading.
October 24: Finish "Mother and Child." Start paleolithic cave drawing #1, using chalk pastel in Earth tones.
October 25: Finish Paleo #1. Start Paleo #2, only use oil pastel on this one.
October 26: Work on sketchpad #7 if done with cave drawings.
October 27. Make a wet on wet water color background for an underwater scene. Make sketches for underwater animals you will want to include in this painting.
October 30: Add your underwater plants and animals to your water color background using a wet and dry technique.
October 31: Make a sketch of Matisse's "The Purple Robe."
November 1: Use watercolors to paint "The Purple Robe."
November 2: Finish painting and work on Sketchpad #8 if done. Sketchpad #8 will be your midterm test.
November 6: Finish assignments and Sketchpad.
November 7: Finish and turn in all work (end of quarter).
November 8: Pinch Pot--smooth, no foot.
November 9: Finish first pinch pot, then start on another similar one, on which you will, in addition, attach a foot (Pinch Pot Smooth, with Foot).
November 13: Finish pinch pot (smooth, with foot), then start another to be carved.
November 14: Work on pinch pots.
November 15: Continue to work on pinch pots.
November 16: Finish making the three pinch pots. Start 6x6x6 inch clay box with carved design.
November 17: Work on clay box.
November 20: Finish making box.
November 21: Glaze pinch pots.
November 22: Continue working on projects. Pinch pots are due.
November 27: Glaze 6x6x6 box, start animal soap dish
November 28: Work on soap dish
November 29: Start 5" tall mug with handle
November 30: Work on projects
December 1: Work on projects, 6 inch carved box is due.
December 4: Start 6" tall coil vase.
December 5: Work on projects.
December 6: Work on projects.
December 7: Make Christmas Tree ornament, clean up room.
December 8: Coil mug and soap dishes are due. Work on ornament or other projects.
December 11: Finish projects.
December 12: Start ceramic mask.
